Knitted Baby Blanket

Knitting diagonal chevron pattern scarf

This pattern is from Studio knit.

This is the pattern I used to knit my brother’s scarf and was the most complex I have tried so far. Whilst it still only consisted of knits and purls it was the fact it was a 16 row repeat which made it a bit harder. To make sure I kept track of this I made a table with the first column being the row instructions and the rest being tick boxes so I could tick off each row on the repeats as I did it. In total I needed to do 28 of these 16 row repeats to complete the scarf – well my brother is over 6 foot tall.

To knit this one I used Schachenmayr Trachtenwolle (colour 00095) yarn which is a medium yarn and is 63% wool 37% acrylic. To knit it I used aluminium 5 mm needles.

The yarn was not my favourite to knit with as I found it a bit rough on my fingers when working it but it is much softer as the finished item. The yarn is a 3 ply yarn and did not split whist I was using it which was good but the white speckles on the yarn did not show up as much as I wanted it to on the finished item. The yarn is machine washable but it needs to be on the wool cycle and no fabric softener should be used.

The finished item does have a clear pattern but it perhaps would have showed up better with a slightly lighter colour of yarn. The finished item is slightly squishy to the feel a softer yarn may improve this.

The yarn and needles is available from Love crafts.
