Knitting Flag stich scarf

I know, another scarf but they are good to practice patterns with.

This pattern was from studio knits and I have provided a link to the page below.

It is a beginner pattern as it only involves knit and purl stitches and consists of a 6 row repeat pattern.

Now here, if making a scarf, I would advise that you cast one one extra set of 7 stitches than you would normally use for the type of yarn you are using. This is because at points the entire length of the scarf would be either knits or purls and this causes a bit of curling between the sets of 7 stitches, as you can see in the photo. This adds to the pattern and I like the effect but does cause a slight narrowing of the scarf. As I like the effect I don't want to block it out.

For the 6 row repeat I wrote it down and simply used a piece of card to underline the row I was on.

To knit this I used James C Brett Tranquil yarn (shade TQ05). This is a bulky weight yarn and is 20% wool 80% acrylic. It is machine washable at 30 deg C and on the wool cycle. I found the yarn nice to work and it flowed through my fingers well whilst working with it  but the coloured twist around the core did slide a bit.  Unfortunately I don't think this particular yarn is available anymore as I can't find it on my usual yarn shopping sites but similar yarns are.

I also used Pony 6 mm plastic needles. The wool content helped reduce the grip of the needles on the yarn.

The resulting scarf is nice and soft and I think this is more suitable to ladies than men but if the yarn colour was changed it would become more unisex

Needles I used: pony needles

I can't link the yarn as I can not find it on any of the shops I usually use.
