one row repeat scarf

So for my next knitting project I went back to a scarf. They are my go to project to try out a pattern to see if I like it enough to make something larger in that pattern. The only problem is is that I end up with a lot of scarves. Can be useful as I can give some away as gifts etc.

The yarn I used here  is Lollipop from Hobbii which is an aran weight (4 grade) yarn which is 20% wool 80% acrylic. The wool gives it some warmth and the acrylic keeps the cost and stretch down. It is a yarn which changes colour as you go along, the colour I have is ‘San Francisco (29)’ colours in it are orange, purple, blue, green and yellow. Sadly it does change colour at inconvinient places but the only way to avoid this is to cut the yarn at the start of a row when the colour change is approching and reattach with the new colour. This gives more ends to weave in at the end which I prefer to avoid.

The yarn bands says to use needles from 4-6 mm I chose to use 5mm as these is my go to for this yarn weight and it did work up well if slightly stiff so perhaps an additional 0.5mm on the needles would have alleviated it but I did not want to undo it just for this and it will soften on washing.

The pattern is very straight forward, and it works well with a ‘busy’ yarn so the yarn becomes the star of the show rather than the pattern. It is a one row repeat so there is very easy to knit away.

Pattern:

CO – multiples of 4

S1p *K2 K1tbl P1* K3

S1p = slip 1 purl wise

K1tbl = knit 1 through back loop

To get a reasonable length of scarf it will take two balls of the yarn they are £17 each but if you buy more than one the price per ball does go down.
